This document defines canonical terminology for the EOTIR universe. All writers and AI assistants must use these terms consistently.

Usage Notes

Dialogue vs. Narration

In dialogue, characters may use informal terms that would be incorrect in narration:

  • Dialogue: “The Republic won’t stand for this!” (acceptable)
  • Narration: “The Imperial Republic responded swiftly.” (required)

First Reference Rule

On first reference in a document, use the full formal term. Subsequent references may use shortened forms:

  • First: “The Commission for the Preservation of the New Order (COMPNOR)”
  • After: “COMPNOR”

Title Capitalization

Capitalize titles when used with names or as direct address:

  • “Grand Minister Vance announced…”
  • “Yes, Grand Minister.”
  • “The grand minister of COMPNOR is appointed by…”

Adding New Terms

When adding terms to this guide:

  1. Check if term exists (search first)
  2. Add to appropriate category
  3. Include at least one incorrect variant
  4. Write clear definition
  5. Add context notes if usage is nuanced
  6. Update the updated_at date in frontmatter
