Background –

Malia Jae’Nor Hollis was born to a wealthy family on Mandalore. She was the third child, and the first girl. Her mother died giving birth to her younger sister, who was stillborn.

Mali grew up in a large estate in the center of privelaged Mandalore with her father and brothers. At a very young age, her engagement with the Mandalore’s favored son, Jacen Fel, was settled between the Mandalore and her own father. Both children were not given any additional benefits from the match: Jacen often was unaware of his father’s preference, and Mali was brought up privelaged but within limits. At the age of seven, as all Mandalorians of noble status, she began military training at the age of seven. Her family never intended for her to continue a career in the Military beyond the hopes that she might one day bear the title of the First Wife of the Mandalore.

When she was nine, the news that she had been betrothed was made known to her, and her father explained the expectations she would bear to continue the noble name of Hollis. Mali did not oppose the match, as it was custom for parents to arrange such things for their daughters, and agreed happily to meet the boy. They were allowed much time as children to play alone in the Hollis estate, Mali not yet knowing he was the son of the Mandalore.

When Jacen turned 17, however, things took a turn for the worse when he decided to leave the planet to join the Imperial Republic forces. Mali, then 15, was heartbroken and begged him not to go, but to no avail. He left her and his people without leaving word. For two years, Mali trained hard in the schools she was made to attend, hoping to one day leave as Jacen did and join him. After two full years had passed, she gave up hope. Mali defied tradition, and went to the Mandalore himself at the age of 17 to seek her freedom from the engagement contract. Knowing she could be tried for treason, she faced him anyway. The Mandalore, who had been impressed with her skills and devotion, agreed to break the contract on her terms, but hesitantly. He offered his help as she made her plans known to further her training and leave Mandalore, and Mali thanked him with no intentions of accepting such a gift.

For the next three years, she trained extensively with the Mandalorian forces in sharp shooting and other battle techniques, earning awards for skills and talents as she continued. During this time, her father and brothers refused her financial assistance, hoping she would return home and another marriage arrangement could be made. Mali worked in the entertainment industry as a small time actress and as an extra in some major productions on Mandalore to pay for her training and living costs. She worked hard, and graduated with distinct honors. With the news that she was now sought for enlistment within the Mandalorian high ranks as an officer, peace was made with Mali and her family.

She left the evening of graduation, not wanting to wait another minute to make her escape to Coruscant, only bidding her brother Kordon goodbye. He attempted to stop her, but in the end, he knew she was better off leaving Mandalore. She arrived on Coruscant, and began searching for Jacen. Mali used the pseudoname “Jae-nor Fel” to avoid detection. She took a position as a bartender at a Cantina called the Rose and Skull, catching the eye of her boss, Neo Britannia. Neo helped arrange for her housing in a safe part of the city, and kept an eye out for her. She used her position to make a name for herself among the scum of the galaxy as a tough, strong person who does not tolerate being played. She killed a member of a local gang attempting to scam the Cantina and rob it, catching more approval and help from certain fractions of the less than notable society. Neo promoted her to singer as a reward for her skills and talent, and she began dating him.

Mali recieved word from her brother Kordon that the Mandalore had been killed in battle while she was away, and the news greatly saddened her. After about a year of her being away from Mandalore, the longing to leave the life she began on Coruscant for causing Justice became a strong pull, and she ended up applying for a position with IRSB, having low hopes. They offered her a position, but not as a sniper, where all her training was. She then applied to the Army, and was again offered a position, which she took with great joy. She and Neo became engaged shortly before she entered her long first term on The Avenger.

History :

The Hollis family traces their ancestry back to Callista Ming, a renound Jedi known for reanimating a body with her own spirit and being a lover to Luke Skywalker, and losing herself in the force because of her actions. The Hollis family began a few small shipping fractions based out of Mandalore, and opened a few shipyards when they began being successful. The Jedi trait eventually fizzled out, however their involvement with Mages kept them in circles of Dark Force users.

While her father and brother Hughur remained active to an extent in this group, Kordon abstained from the service, calling the cause lost and faulted. Malia was not aware of her family’s involvement until she was in specialized training. It is a big part of the rift between them.
