History :
Early Years
Locke Firecam VII was born on Yaga Minor to Mia and Tycho Firecam. Named after his late grandfather, he was given this name as the first male child born in his generation. Much of his childhood was spent at the Firecam family’s traditional home is just outside the capital of Yaga Minor. This ancient structure was once a feudal seat of power that was restored generations ago. It was a large structure and many family members called it home to this day. This allowed for a young Locke to spend his days exploring the towers and passages with his cousins and younger sisters.
When he reached the age of thirteen, it was time for Locke to move on and out of the country castle that he had called home since birth. For hundreds of years the Firecam family has been among the leaders of research and production of the shipyards that make the planet Yaga Minor famous. A teenage Locke, when he was not with his friends, spent much of his free time learning about and studying the shipyards and the massive vessels that they created. His father served as chief engineer and director of production for the family’s main production center, which was a series of dozens of massive shipyards situated just outside their home planet. During this second phase of his upbringing, Locke lived and studied on a large space station situated in the cluster of shipyards. This period also saw the development of his love of spacecrafts, especially the massive capital ships that he saw day in and out being produced at the yards. It was this love of spacecraft would be the driving factor in many of his later decisions, and also provide him with a unique understanding of craft functionality that has been useful in his military career.
Like many others his age, Locke’s first solo steps into the void of space was taken in a small single seat fighter craft. On board this Cygnus Gunboat, he spent many hours learning to pilot and control his craft, flying around the shipyard cluster and weaving in and out of the construction, much to the complaint of the workers. This daredevil piloting act directly led to his career as a military officer, as one day while an Imperial official was touring the family’s facilities he was amazed by the piloting skill and finesse of the young Locke and immediately offered him a scholarship to the Imperial Academy.
Military Career
Imperial Navy
At the age of seventeen Firecam left his family and his home to go to the Imperial Academy. He was the first member of his family to not solely study starship engineering, rather his undergraduate work also focused on military science. At the Imperial Academy Locke was top of his class, earning the much coveted graduation with Honors and accepted a position in the Imperial Navy as a Flight Corporal. His first command was squadron leader of the 4th Sector Fleet’s elite assault gunboat squad. Locke was quickly promoted for his valor and skill in combat and made the rank of Ensign in record time. In doing so, he drew the attention of many special organizations of the Empire.
Always wanting to prove his ability, the young fighter ace took on any mission, no matter how dangerous, and nearly lost his life on these top secret missions on numerous occasions. His outstanding record earned him three Imperial Letters of Commendation for his superior service, special Recognition from the Imperial Security Bureau for his participation in numerous Special Forces missions, and membership to COMPNOR. His charismatic personality led him to serve part time as an Imperial Academy staff member where he found his love of teaching which would come in handy later on in his career. Locke was promoted up to Lieutenant Commander and 3IC of the 4th Sector Fleet when his life forever changed.
Royal Hapan Navy
Locke made his way to the Hapes Consortium. Being an outside to the ways and customs of the cluster, the young Imperials required a special audience with the monarch in order to be accepted into the Royal Hapan Armed Forces. After being comissioned as an Ensign, Locke started out his Naval career in Hapes in the 1st Fleet by being assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Nova Battle Cruiser HRS Mathonore. It did not take long for the Hapan leadership to recognize his skills as an officer, and he quickly climbed through the ranks, hitting his first milestone as a Hapan Officer.
Locke’s first taste of command came when he was named to the Naval Command Staff. Then Lieutenant Firecam was jumped three ranks that of Commander. Locke served as the Naval Training Officer, a position he held for some time. Using his knowledge gained in COMPNOR and the Imperial Academy, he developed the longest lasting and most influential system of Naval Training. This system is the basis for every bit of military training currently in place. This was his first lasting legacy and secured his place as a rising military star. After a distinguished career leading the Hapan Academy, Locke took the job of Commanding the 1st Hapan Fleet, which was currently struggling. This proved to be his defining moment as a Naval Commander.
Not long after he took command of the 1st, the fleet began to turn around, and soon it was the best run and most effective fleet in the Royal Hapan Navy, earning then Line Captain Firecam much praise and admiration. Locke made a point of defining himself as a man of character and a friend of every officer, spending as much time interacting with his men as he did with his administrative duties. This work in rebuilding the 1st Hapan Fleet made Captain Firecam the Navy’s top commander, and he was soon ready for a new project. It had long been a dream of the Captain to start a new type of fleet, one that was fast and responsive, able to move freely to where it was needed, and support the aspects of the cluster that the Defense fleets could not handle. Out of this vision, the 3rd Escort Fleet was born. By this time, news of his accomplishments and leadership has spread throughout the military, and competition to join the fleet led by the legendary Captain Firecam was fierce, with nearly 75% of the current officers applying for transfers.
The founding of the Third is one of the biggest accomplishments of Lord Firecam’s career. Again, he took a fleet that was in bad shape at the time, the 9th Hapan Fleet, and made it into the top fleet in the Navy. Under his direction the Third continued to grow and develop and still stands strong to this day.
Shortly after this the Hapan monarch made then Captain Firecam a member of the top tier of Naval Officers, promoting him to Commodore and entrusting him with the job of Naval Administrative Officer. Although hesitant to actually give the title of NCO away again, the monarch entrusted Commodore Firecam to do what needed to be done with the Navy. After a brief period of time, the Navy was in its best shape ever, and the King declared that the Navy had entered a golden age of activity, function, and reliability. This further added to Locke’s fame, as not long after that when the only officer who outranked him retired, Commodore Firecam was promoted to Contra Admiral and given full authority over the Navy as its Commanding Officer in function and title.
Under Contra Admiral Firecam, the Navy expanded to its greatest size ever, adding a historic 4th Hapan Fleet, the 21st Hapan Fleet. The Royal Hapan Navy continued to grow and develop under his leadership and was widely regarded as the most efficient fighting force in the galaxy. The Navy under Admiral Firecam was defined by his interactive Leadership style and focus on community involvement. His involvement in the everyday affairs of the fleets led him to meet the majority of his men personally, and he shared his time with all, Crewman to Commodore. After his long and distinguished service, His Majesty, in a move long expected by most, made Admiral Firecam a Hapan Lord and his place as one of the top officers in Hapan history was forever secured. The new House Firecam made its home in the Sarr system, and although this world was much different and less developed then the Family’s ancestral home of Yaga Minor, Locke vowed to turn it into one of the premier systems in the galaxy and cluster. This new branch of Firecams was distinctly different then those still living in Imperial space, as they have adopted Hapan culture and ideals.
Shortly after being made a noble, her majesty promoted Lord Firecam to the rank of Vice Admiral. With the onset of the Minister of Defence, the Admiral’s title changed to Chief of Staff, but his leadership and care for his officers that defined his career remains the same. Shortly after, the Admiral once again took on a new challenge. Vice Admiral Firecam was charged with resurrecting the Hapan Special Forces unit and Royal Bodyguards known as Phoenix. Always up for a challenge, Locke accepted this new role the monarch, and now serves as Commander of the Phoenix Legion. After a long and history career as a military leader, Lord Firecam finally reached the peak he had long been striving for. His last promotion in Hapes was to Admiral, the highest rank in the Royal Hapan Armed Forces.
Imperial Republic
With the dawn of the Imperial Republic, Locke made the move out of the Hapan Navy and into the Imperial Republic Navy. Served as a Vice Admiral on the Naval Command Staff before being promoted to the rank of full Admiral. Currently serves as Chief of Naval Operations.
